Besides, the 'internet' will only remain 'free' provided ISPs invest some of their profits into maintaining and upgrading the infamous 'last mile'.
But they won't. Not because they're money-hungry bastards (although they are), but because they just aren't profiting enough to spare anything. It's their own grave, mind you - they've all been undercutting each other and overselling their own capacities for so little for so long that they're ****ed. Royally.

So basically you're going to end up paying more for the same thing regardless; whether it's just to maintain the network, or use your ISP's 'fast lane'.
