help with sound card adjustment

i just bought a new gateway computer, i play nascar racing 2003, on my new computer the sound of the car sounds like a weedeater.... How do i adjust the sound, it sounded like a race car on my old dell computer, but on the new one i can't even hear when i am accelerating or slowing down, any suggestions on how to adjust would be greatly appeciated.

ajusting? it should work correctly from the beginning!

I suggest the new computer is bought in a store and you haven't build it yourself. I suggest the first thing you should do is install another game (if you haven't done already) on the new computer and check if the sound is also disturbed in that game. In both cases i would suggest to download the latest drivers for your soundcard and install them over the current ones.
Have you tried listening to the sound with another device? like a headphone instead of boxes or something?
it's really hard to say what the problem could be.
