Nintendo Revolution
The hype of the next-gen control is starting to grow as 2005 is here. Most of the consoles should be released by the end of the year. As usual, Nintendo is being so secretive, we don't even know what the console's shape and size will be. What have you all heard about this so far? I went and found a handful of articles at IGN about it. So far, we know that it's going to revolutionize the industry, and that there won't be a D-Pad or the A and B buttons. We also know that Nintendo wants to keep it simple, (hooray, the only game company to follow KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid). It is speculated, however, that it may have something to do with a gyroscope. I simply can't wait until E3 2005.
My speculation? Nintendo plans to be the first to make virtual gaming a reality. It's a long ways from now, I believe, but considering what the second article says about the Gyration technology, it's not entirely farfetched of an idea. God, just the concept of playing Metroid Prime or Zelda in that fashion... (The funny thing is, then I read further into the article and noticed they also speculated VR. I guess I'm not as stupid as I thought. )
Granted, that is only one idea, but...I like it the most.

Re: Nintendo Revolution
Nintendo have been too secritive with the "Revolution" because they "don't want anyone else to steal their ideas". They should make more hype for it because tonnes of people i know don't even think there is going to be a new nintendo console.
I will deff buy it if it is any good, though i can't imagine nintendo making a "bad" console.

Re: Nintendo Revolution
Well, yes, they obviously keep their secrets for just that reason, especially with Microsoft lurking in the shadows.
I don't think we'll have to worry about the hype. Once we're well into 2005, Nintendo will likely begin to advertise it's new product. After all, they plan to make it feasible for people who have never played video games before, not just the hardcore gamers like us.
The chance of Nintendo making a bad console is 0.01%

Re: Nintendo Revolution
Yes, IGN mentioned that, as well, but they attributed it to R&D for the DS. I have a feeling it's more for the Revolution than the DS, myself.

Re: Nintendo Revolution
Just found this on Gamespot, may not be true but just take a look.
Rumor #4: A Nintendo insider has leaked many details about the company's next-gen console, the "Revolution."
Source: That limitless wellspring of game-industry effluvia, the Gaming Age Forums.
The official story: "Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation." --Nintendo of America representative.
What we heard: A GAF poster republished information he claimed originated from the "first person to give decent DS specs." Though the original source admits his information has only "a 65 percent chance of being accurate," he makes some claims that, if true, would be pretty innovative. One, he confirms a rumor that was widely circulated last year--that the Revolution's controllers will incorporate gyration technology. It will have dual processors, four controller ports, built-in broadband, and an Xbox-esque hard drive that can store downloaded and saved content. (Can you say, "Son of 64DD?") While the Revolution will be backward-compatible with GameCube games, it will not have Game Boy Advance or DS connectivity. Instead, it will link up to the vaunted Game Boy Evolution, the near-mythical successor to the GBA. Games in development include--shocker--a Mario game, a Zelda game, and a Super Smash Brothers game. But when the poster's source asked his inside source at Nintendo what "revolutionary" functionality the console would have, the mole balked. He would only say, "If you think too hard you'll never guess what it is. It's nothing 'new,' technically speaking. It's just something that hasn't really been applied to video games yet." Sounds pretty good--for a thirdhand account on a forum of word-of-mouth information that has, by the author's own admission, a 35-percent chance of being wrong.
Bogus or not bogus?: We'll see at E3.

That can apply to so many things.
Anyways, I'm glad to hear of development of a third Super Smash Brothers. That alone will be enough for me to get the Revolution.
Oh, and about the use of gyration technology...there is evidence pointing towards that, with Nintendo and Gyration Inc. cutting some sort of deal that involved Nintendo paying for the rights to use the gyration technology.
The introduction of a hard drive will make things much easier, also. I cannot remember the number of saved game files I had to delete from my memory card to make room for another, not to mention the number of times I had to start over on Super Smash Brother Melee because my brother and his stupid friends erased the file.

Re: Nintendo Revolution
Nintendo's next machine is looking like miles ahead of the competition with these new possible revoloutions in gameplay. I am really intested to see these new machines at E3 and see how little microsoft and sony have done to their machines and how much nintendo has done to theirs.

Re: Nintendo Revolution
As far as I can tell, Sony is just allowing the use of Blu-Ray discs, having an extremely powerful processor, and having a gfx card made by Nvidia. X-Box 2...don't see anything special there, myself. Likely Microsoft will keep the same features and just make it more powerful. Microsoft hasn't even confirmed if there will be an X-Box 2. Nintendo seems to be the only company trying to be innovative at all lately, which has been argued before quite vehemently somewhere on these forums. Maybe that innovative nature will finally pay off with the Revolution, it sure did with the DS.

Re: Nintendo Revolution
Sounds good,
just don't make a legend out of it or you might be dissapoint yourself.
Try and not anticipate it so when it does come out it will be really cool.
Hey Kain... For some reason you look like a dark haired chrono...
Where did your Dragoon Helmet and long flowing blond hair go?

Re: Nintendo Revolution
Kain? Who where?
Anyways...yeah, I'm not expecting anything remotely close to what I picture as Virtual Reality, but I do think that this will be a big step towards making it a mainstream for video games. We do know that they plan to use gyration technology in the controllers, and that they won't use the D-pad or the A and B buttons, so it's bound to be something innovative.

Re: Nintendo Revolution
You ever see Minority Report, the part where the lead character wears those gloves and uses them to manipulate images on a big screen? You would use Gyration technology to make those gloves work.

Re: Nintendo Revolution
IGN Rumor Control
It doesn't really seem to answer anything, but that is because Nintendo continues to remain as secretive as ever.
