I've just paid £119.99 for "The Complete U2" on the iTunes music store. "The Completely F***ed Up U2" would be a more accurate description.

Out of 446 songs, only 38 have successfully downloaded, and it's just retrying over and over to download the failed tracks. I am totally pucking fissed off with this stupid thing. As well as failing to deliver over 400 of the tracks I've paid for, it's wasting my god damn bandwidth failing and retrying.

I'm going to shut iTunes down now and try again in a few hours in case there's a problem with Apple's servers, then send them a flaming email if it still won't work.

If you're thinking about buying music online, take my advice and stay away from iTunes. mycokemusic.com is no better.

Bad luck, iTunes is a piece of poop, I have to use it every now and again for my iPod and it constantly crashs

I know on older iPods, you could use MusicMatch Jukebox to copy your music over. Don't know if you can use it with the new models, but it may be worth looking into.

Personally I don't have a problem with iTunes. It's just the music store I've developed an obsessive hatred for. Their customer service sucks. I reported my problem last night, and this morning I have a generic response email suggesting i reboot and try again. The fact that 700mb of my bandwidth has been wasted doesn't seem to matter to Apple, and it still isn't working. For every song successfully downloaded, it's skipped about 4 tracks. Bittorrent may be legal - but downloading copyrighted material on it is totally illegal. Saying "I really believed it was legal" won't help you when you're up in court facing prosecution.

Well it's downloading now - Very very very very slowly. Snore.

I think I'll leave it on overnight tonight while I sleep. At the current download speed though it'll only get through about 100 songs in 8 hours. Looks like I'm having a weekend sat in front of the computer trying not to browse too much. Yeah, right.

OK, it's finally finished.

This is what should have happened:-

1. Bought "The Complete U2" from iTunes Music Store.
2. Six and a half hours later, downloading is complete.

This is what actually happened:-

Wednesday afternoon
Bought "The Complete U2" from iTunes music store for £119.99.

After waiting approx. 5 hours, realized iTunes was stopping half way through downloading a track and skipping onto the next one. Only 38 songs had downloaded in 5 hours. Sent email to iTunes music store tech support.

Thursday morning
Receive a generic "restart your computer and try again" email.
Started iTunes and downloaded approx. 30 songs over a period of 1 hour.

Thursday evening
Started downloading at 5.50PM
Downloaded 15 songs over a period of 2 hours.
iTunes started skipping tracks without completing the downloads.
Rebooted computer as suggested by tech support.
Didn't fix the problem - Watched as iTunes skipped through 20 tracks without completing the download.

Waited a while... Rebooted....

Started downloading at 8.20PM - no other internet activity.
Stopped downloading at 8.40PM
Data downloaded in 20 minutes - 61.03 Megabytes
Songs downloaded in 20 minutes - ZERO.

Friday morning
Tried again at 2.30AM with no success. Same problem of skipping to the next track without completing the current download. ZERO songs downloaded.

Tried again at 6.30AM, and successfully downloaded 55 songs over a period of 48 minutes. Had to go to work to earn money to pay for music I didn't yet have.

Friday evening
Downloaded 102 songs between 6 & 11.30PM (a period of 5 and a half hours).
Left computer downloading overnight from 11.30PM and downloaded 206 songs over a period of 4 hours.

Finally, the download is complete.

So there it is. If you're thinking of buying from iTunes music store, you have to decide whether or not it's worth the risk. Will your music download successfully straight away, or will you have to email tech support? It can take upto 48 hours for them to reply.

Sometimes tracks disappear from your purchased music list without downloading too. This has happened to me twice with other albums, but thankfully didn't happen this time.

Well at least one good thing has come out of this fiasco - I've discovered my ISP has boosted download speeds to 1 megabit per second. At one point the download was coming in at 110kbps.
