Hey, my desktop is the cleanest around here. I only have five shortcuts. I just don't change the background very often, because I'm too lazy to go find neat images for it. Here, just for a change of pace:

OK. Just changed my desktop. Here's the new transparent iMac.

Wow, slick, is that for real?

It's just an illusion. I had to take a photo of the scene without the computer, then take another with the computer.

Then I used the image with the computer to set an area to cut from the background image. I then re-shaped the cut-out so it was the right shape for my screen, set it as wallpaper, and took the final photo.

It only works if you don't move the camera from the start of the process to the finished image. I've seen some really good ones with complex scenes. It doesn't really work too well with a flat background like mine.

I expect we will actually see transparent computer screens in future. There's no knowing what technology they'll come up with. I'm looking forward to being able to drag windows out of my screen and let them hang in mid air. That'll be good.
