Re: Asylum seekers

I think kicking them back to their own country is a bit harsh but the fact of the matter is all these asylum seekers tend to do the remedial and retarded jobs that no-one would want to do. For example dustbin man, cleaning streets etc.

Re: Asylum seekers

lol.. im sure there must be a whole continent floating around there in the ocean where we could send them..

and yes its true that they do the jobs that other people would not do EVER.. but also there is the problem of exploiting people

eg:
i know someone who came to this country and works like 13 hours cleaning things with chemicals and no protective gloves are given.. and minimum wage... they might be immigrants but ya dont have to give them the worst possible treatment ..i mean the guy has a degree in engineering and uk wont accept it because its in another language.. and the goverment complains about not having enough professionals.

Re: Asylum seekers

Does anyone here even understand the difference between an asylum seeker, an immigrant and an illegal immigrant?

Asylum-seekers are refugees, as a signatory to various international treaties we have agreed to provide a safe-haven from people who are forced to flee their homeland. Unless you count a food voucher and £10 as "everything for free" these peope get very little from the UK and are in fact treated rather harshly by the UK government while the validity of their claim for asylum is considered. They are legally forbidden to seek work.

Immigrants are people who come here, again legally, wishing to settle in the UK permanently, to join a spouse or just because they like it here. It's hard to meet the government criteria (although people with large amounts of money are welcomed) but once in you receive little more from the government than a stamp in your passport.

Illegal immigrants are by definition here unofficially. As the government doesn't know who or where they are, it's difficult to pay them benefits!

There seems to be a widespread myth that anyone coming to Britain, for whatever reason, is automatically issued with free housing, massive cash benefits, jumps the queue for health and education and so forth. The reality couldn't further from the truth. It's ironic that people who are dead set against immigration are the ones propagating this myth on the internet--and so encouraging more people to come here!

Well said. It's sad to see so many hate people. These people have no place to go. Their countries are in war, they're being persecuted for many reasons. I have loads of asylum seeker friends and am an advocate for them in the UK. They deserve to be anywhere safe... WE ALL DO! If you all complain about asylum seekers speak to your MPs and make them realize that the problem isn't asylum seekers coming here, it's their countries are in termoil. THEY CANT GO HOME OR THEY'LL MOST LIKELY DIE!

You have to realize how lucky you are to be British, European, American and to live in a society where there aren't contant problems where you can't practice your own religion, dress how you want, live how you want, make money to feed your family... the gov will take it all before it even reaches your bank. I just went to Kenya for 2 months and the person I was living with made 200/= kenya shillings a month! That's about 20 pounds! Can YOU live on that? It's not her fault, she's well educated, she's got a good job, and she loves where she is. Can she have EVERYTHING she wants? No, but she's happy. How about having some compassion for these people! I have another friend who was persecuted in Iran for changing his religion from Muslim to Christian. They sent the military after him to kill him. Would you like to be faced with that? I don't think so! It horrifies me that people have this "hate" attitude and no one should come to the shores of their country.

Just another question. If you're so against asylum seekers, what about those on benefits? They get everything from the gov, yet I don't hear anyone complaining about the people on benefits??? Why not??? Think about it.

Re: Asylum seekers

I agree completely mchter02. I'm not American, so I suppose I can relate to this rather well. My father came to the United States from Poland in the mid-80's and while I can't say much about it-due to the fact that I wasn't born yet-my mom has told me tons of stories of how hard he searched for some kind of job so he could earn money to send us. People may think it wrong to have these people here but they're no different than you or I. They're just individuals who want to start over again. Being from war-torn countries is so difficult, no wonder they like it here. They just want a goddamn better life, is all. I've been in the U.S. for 13 years. I may have an advantage because I came here when I was 3, so I was raised here with more opportunities but I'm going to strive to be a positive, productive citizen in life just like the next person. I'd really appreciate it if people thought about what they were saying once in awhile. How can you bear such hatred toward another? It's just beyond my comprehension...

Saint Anger, the fact of the matter is that plenty of these people from other countries are actually very well-educated. My mom was a chem/bio. teacher but she couldn't get anywhere near the type of teaching job she loved doing in Poland here because her teaching degrees became basically useless and even if she did try to get a job in education, it would have been pretty difficult. And you spelled "grateful" wrong.

There is. It's called Oceania and it was to be a man-made 'floating-city' built by those involved in the Atlantis Project, which started in '93 and involved several countries. It ceased in '94 due to lack of interest.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that people should tolerate others more and try to see things from anothers' point of view. Don't be retarded and take all you have for granted just because you can.

I'm not rascist at all, however I believe that the doors should be closed.
If you want your country to be better, do something yourself instead of leaving and waiting for the rest of the world to save your ***.

Re: Asylum seekers

But the U.S. makes it known that they're a country of hope and freedom, and promises of a better life. It's only natural people would take advantage of that. And yes, I'm all for a country improving itself, like you said Tomalak, but it's not as easy as it sounds.

Re: Asylum seekers

That's true Tomalak. A lot of countries are trying to reform, though and yes, it isn't easy. I do see why some people may be against asylum seekers but I what I mainly mean is that I understand why most come here like they do.

Re: Asylum seekers

Oh, I understand why they come, democracy (minus some small issues) rocks
And I'm not one of those people who complains that ``Immigrants take our jobs``, or other **** on those lines.
It's the ones who seek political asylum that bother me. They broke the laws in their country, laws which might be foolish or barbaric in our eyes, but their laws nonetheless.
Any dictator CAN be overthrown, if enough people act. You can't kill everybody, nothing left to dictate then. Granted, many WILL die, but their sacrifices will give the future generations a new hope. We can only hope that the ones who come here will be able to return to their homelands with new knowledge and attitudes, to change things for the better.
Once someone gets that first taste of freedom, they usually will want to fight to keep it.
It's all attitude. Look at North America. I find it hard to imagine that a dictator could take over and bend us to his will.
More than likely, there would be massive revolts, and Mr.Badass would end up imprisoned, or dead.
Like these poor fellows in the Ukraine. I really hope it works out for them, and they remain defiant.
