Have you modded your Xbox?
Just wondering how many people have modded their Xbox's and whether they do any fancy stuff to it like installing Linux?

Yeah, I've modded my xbox. I have Linux but I never got around to installing it on my box.
I replaced the original 5 GB xbox HD with an 80 GB one, loaded it with games, skins, movies, mp3s, etc.

Yeah, but you have to install a switch, and turn the modchip off when using XBL
I snapped a few pics of the back of my xbox. Have a look next to the rj45 port

You network it with your computer and transfer it over from their. Damn, wish I had a mod chip with all that stuff, I am afraid that it might stuff up the Xbox.

Yeah, all you do is FTP to it.
I replaced the MS dashboard with EvoX. After that, you setup the NIC settings on your PC ( http://www.techhelping.com/pages/xbox-backup.html) and once connected, just upload the files. Same process for everything else
Another good thing about this is that you can download saved games, so if you'
re too lazy to beat a game and unlock it, you can just download one ( www.xboxsaves.com) and upload it to your xbox.
The possibilities are endless if the console has a modchip ;) |

yea, id like to know that... or just how to put a bigger hard drive... what type of HD does it use, and how big can i go? its not my xbox, so please give as much detail as pos... thanks...

You can use any standard hard drive, and it can go up to 200 GB.
To replace the HD, all you do is open your xbox, take out the old HD, and just replace it with the new one. Once the new HD is installed, you need to format it and install the dashboard. I recommend using Evolution X. (if you download & burn evolution x, it will format your HD and set it up automatically)
Once the HD is swapped, you can also FTP to it and upload/download games, apps, movies, music, etc.

Before you chip it, find out which version of the xbox you have. There is no one set method to do this, so instead you need to look for little differences that certain versions of the console have.
Once you find out which version you have, get a modchip for that version.

I just got mine moded. I put in a 60 gig Western Digital HD and for some reason when I go to applications to save games.. it say actual size 48 gig and available is 42 gig.. what ever happened to the rest..

Well it depends on what type of setup you want.
The modchip can be anywhere from $10-$50 + USD, and other than that the important thing is the hard drive. I have an 80 GB in mine, and you can prob grab one of those for around $60. |

I tired burning games and dvd to my HD. I was able to backup my games, but i want able to do my DVD's.. I tried 5 and non of them work.. What could be wrong? Also can I want VCD with my xbox?
