PC frustration
I've been slow around here the past few weeks. Rarely get online lately, not having a computer.
A week ago I had finished building my new PC from the parts I ordered.
Gigabyte motherboard, 700 watt power supply, Radeon HD 3870 512MB diamond viper graphics card, intel 2 core duo processor, 2GB ram, 500GB hardrive, and vista home premium.
Took about forty-five minutes to build, and an hour to install vista with updates.
As I was installing steam, among other things, something weird started to happen. My computer started to randomly shut itself off. Kept doing that over and over, sometimes after an hour of being on to thirty seconds. I checked everything, everything was functioning properly, had three cooling fans, no overheating. No explanation.
Eventually it got worse. It uninstalled vista, by itself, and USB ports would randomly stop working, losing the ability to use keyboard and mouse.
I've built four computers in my life, and have never seen anything like this.
Took it all apart, put all back together piece by piece, and individually tested each piece alone, and it all worked. I was stumped. Tech support had no idea, a lot of different tech supports. The conclusion the manufacturers came to was that the power supply and the motherboard were corrupt.
A one and a million chance, of say a saudering error when the parts were being built in the factory.
That's what I figured as a last resort, worst case scenario. Dead on arrival in other words.
I packed everything up and sent it all back, not worrying about shipping and handling as they said they would take care of it for me, from all the problems, and they payed for insurance.
They received the motherboard, and said there were a few tiny scratches present, under magnification, no joke, they said that.
I said; "No shit, it was holding all the computer hardware when I built onto it, and it didn't work. That's why I'm returning it, you guys said you'd refund me."
After being on hold for ten minutes I finally got a word in with a manager. He apologized and said he'd straighten this mess out for me. I'm awaiting an email.

Big deal, I built a computer from
A metal coathanger, a Smith Corona typewriter, 4 national pencil batteries, a 2 GB USB storage device, a cave rat, paper fan and a dog.
Pfft.

Sorry, intel? Pssh, what I meant was a final fantasy Chocobo running in a wheel.
The layout of the motherboard is, well, Max's mother.

Re: PC frustration
Well I hope they have refunded your money or gave you new parts by now. Not sure who you went through but if you are still looking I have used Newegg.com on several occasions and they have always helped out if something was wrong.

Re: PC frustration
I have used Newegg before, great site. This time however, I went through TigerDirect. I got full refund now. Found a microcenter that I didn't know of, not to far away, and am buying the parts from them tomorrow.
