HD DVD may look out of it now, but it will return. I read reports about anyway, the only thing blu ray surpasses hd dvd in is darker colors. The sound on both were equal, there is less posterization on HD DVD. HD DVD load faster, and the menus are easier to control. The only reason movie companies are moving to blu ray is it's storage capacity It holds more, but is less quality then the other.

I don't know where to start...
If no movie studios, no movie companies are using HD DVD, it dies. It doesn't return a la Lazarus. Are you still cradling an old Betamax player?
Darker colours are very much the in thing for this generation of TVs. Light colours are no problem at all.
Menus on a DVD are negligible, that's nothing to do with the format of the disc.
And as for higher capacity, that means you can cram higher-definition media onto it.

Re: HD DVD vs Blu Ray
No it isn't being stupid. I won't argue any further more than this, HD DVD is better, blu ray can die, and blu ray because the owners of it were backed with more money.

Re: HD DVD vs Blu Ray
Phat's right about HD DVD having lots of things better than Blue-ray (picture in picture ability being one of the awesome features). It also allowed for better encoding and compressing which made up partially for the size difference but still none of that matters any more since no one is using it any more.

That's where superiority comes into play. Hence, one being better than the other.

It is better than blu ray. But the movie corps wanted blu ray. It is a bit more expensive because of the laser change, and they like to calculate how much more money can be produced for them with that kind of product.

Re: HD DVD vs Blu Ray
ahh but any that does economics should know that not only will producers produce less at a higher price but consumers will also demand less.
so from that point of view I suppose hd dvd would have been a smarter choice.
but hey its out of our hands

Re: HD DVD vs Blu Ray
They needed to keep both options open. Universal and Paramount should have kept HD DVD, Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox could have used blu ray or vice versa, or both.

Re: HD DVD vs Blu Ray
yeah but they would have looked at demand of both products and just felt there was more of a demand for blu-ray.
and buy just producing blu-ray they could specialise leading to cheaper production of goods at a higher level of efficiency

That is the circle of life in the business.
Eat or be eaten.
Where did blu ray come from anyway? Japan?

Why would they stay with both if one had more money to offer?
