Dreamcast
The Dreamcast was, without a shadow of a doubt, far ahead of it's time. At the time, it's main competitors was the PSone and the N64.
Not only did the Dreamcast came with superb, fluid graphics, but was a true definition of innovation. Granted on the outside, it looked like any other console. Several controller ports, CD drive etc. However, the console came with one unique feature.
Internet Access - The sheer fact that any user to connect their console to a phone line and enter the Dream Arena was truly a first. Being able to chat to other users, play mini games. This was great.
But Sega did not stop there. The Visual Memory card, was basically a Tamogotchi, being able to download characters from games onto your memory card. Some would say this was nothing new, but it was certainly different.
The graphics held up well on most games such as Sonic Adventure and Shenmue. Creating addictiveness and surpassing any console on the market at that time.
Regrettably, people did not realise the potential of the Dreamcast and Sega didn't put all their financial backing behind the console and became a part of history.
Sadly, my Dreamcast had enough and I was unable to repair the thing. Truly one of the great consoles of our time.
With classic games such as Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, Metropolis Street Racer, Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi, this will surely not be forgotten, but remembered for being the basis of the consoles we own today.

Re: Dreamcast
I played it one time, but with that one experience, I truly loved it.
I think (mainly because I love Nintendo's consoles a great deal)
Dreamcast and N64 were equal, I hated to see so many fooled by PSOne. Dreamcast was way ahead of it, and so Was N64. You have to remember too, that N64 came out in 96', and the Dreamcast in 1999, and Sony already had the PSOne before the Dreamcast. Point being, the N64 was older, but still better than PSOne, and was as good as a Dreamcast.

Re: Dreamcast
the 64 was only better than the psone because it was nothing new.
it was the same technology revamped, as opposed to the psone which was something completely different and new

Re: Dreamcast
Just remember that bad deal in the late 80's with Nintendo and Sony? Sony was going to make the PSOne with some elements they were going to put in the SNES, without saying anything to Nintendo. IMO that was a breach of contract. Nintendo should have sued for everything Sony had.
Sony being behind in console sales right now is satisfying though.

cd drive that both jaguar and sega already used...and worse graphics and slower loading times... come on ps1 was a stepping stone to being able to corner the market with ps2, like xbox to 360, the first was barely anything
and the dreamcast came out against the ps1 with way faster loading times, and itnernet connectivity, play with other people what an idea...that never would have worke huh??

Re: Dreamcast
Personally, The reason Dreamcast did not make it, it was ahead of it's time. If they could have held out, and did more work with the style, they could have released it the same time PS2 came out. I would personally believe that it then be Sega, Nintendo, and Microsoft standing right now, and Sony would be making games. Nintendo will survive no matter what, and Microsoft actually got the job done with the 360. Sony cheated and stole ideas, and they gained the market with unfair propulsion.

no cheating in industry, its espionage...really its just quicker marketing and faster smarter better employees lol.....in my opinion.. i fyou had a machine ahead of its time you wait till its time.. sony did so with the psp bad sales started to tank.. so the withdrew supoprt and waited and now its making a resurgence... back you long term goals....

Re: Dreamcast
I remember playing fantasy star online on this console.
Great game, and console. Poor Sega.

Re: Dreamcast
If only there was some way for Sega to generate enough cash to get back into the console industry. I am surprised some billionaire fan hasn't tried.

Re: Dreamcast
Power Stone! IMO it was one of the finest games on the Dreamcast and one of the best fighting games ever. Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur were outstanding, i stayed up all night playing those. I remember the Internet as well, though i thought it was good at the time, thinking back it was a load of shit, but it was 56k connection.
