What would you most like to see in a game review site
We are building a new Gameing review site. Our main goal is to have a site the everyday person can view and make buying choice on our say and be correct. We want to review in an unbiased way. We will have 5 core reviewers and 3 "non hard core" reviewers. one being "the wife" who only play a limited amount of games, "the girlfriend" who only plays so she doesnt have to watch her boy and be bored, and "the non gamer" who never plays and has no itrest.
I figure by having all 8 reviewers review a game the most accurate review will come of it.. If one of my Main 5 doesn't like FPS games but rates it a 8 whlie the 2 guys who love them give it a 10 you can be pretty sure Halo3 is a game to buy day one. If my Mech guy gives gundum a 2 and my other guys give it a 1 then you can BE absolutely certain its a waste of matter.
What I want to know is what do you all want when you go to read reviews... and od any of you have an intrest in writing them??? I have 3 guys I would like at least 2 girls but i would be willing to expand the core team to about 10 if I get enough genuine intrest from people who can be unbiased and will play through games they don't really like. I mean I had to play a full season of Madden 07 to review it and I hate playing seasons of madden... but i gave the game a pretty good review because we have a pretty rigorous gradeing sysytem..
Anyway let me know on replys here and or emails and view the site and keep in mind its a work in progress. I listed it in the promote a site thread and its my name at .net. or my signature. anyway. I check this email.. my hotmail and my website mail and myspace many times a day from my blackberry so anywhere you want to leave an email go ahead I will respond garanteed. Laters play hard

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
I've personally stopped reading regular reviews almost entirely. I like video reviews where someone talks about what makes the game fun and what annoys them rather than talking about technical specs (I only care about frame rate if it effects my gameplay). The best example of this would be Zero Punctuation.

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
Video reviews are already in the works right now. We want to take it in a 3 step approach. Wew will Have the review (tech specs not really, if you have a 360 you know it looks like **** on moms 13incher and amazing on dads plazma) in a page written format for all games that has the overall score. We will have the quick score... basically for the non gaming community that doesnt care if the graphics are cool(i.e. grandma buying for the kids mom who doesnt know what version of Playstation is even out) but cares about if the kid is going to trade it in after seeing the box is Gundum for the Ps3 and not even open it. going something like Buy it now, buy it on sale (under 25 bucks) or budget game, and not even if you paid me would I play this game. a(all names in the works any ideas woul dbe nice) and lastly the video review. Us playing the game, screen shots talking about what made us give it a particular score, we want it in an interview format someone with the camera asking the questions you would normall read in a magazine. This part is why we started the site cause there aren't many as you say that review by video. And those we have found are fanboyish... things like "it was good but the Ps3 looks better doesn't it, see <video zooms in on oblivion on screen> see" Thats not a review but an opinion. my reviews may not like a game but could still score it a 10. I don't like slow moving mission/puzzle type games, but I would rate Asassins creed pretty high becasue it would score high on all my rating critieria. So video is a good thing anything else people???

I'd have to say, what's always annoyed me is how the reviewers clog up other sites asking for opinions.
Also, paragraphs were invented for a reason.

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
I like a good clear cut review. No no to be overly wordy, just the facts as the reviewer sees them. A flagrant attempt to persuade or disuade the reader from playing the game is annoying as well.
Opinions can be added an an addendum or a link. I do not want to see the review pidgeon-holed with them.

I completely disagree. All reviews are subjective and trying to be objective about it is just silly. Whether or not you find a game fun is always going to influence how you write a review and if you find something fun you want others to try it and so you want them to buy the game. I like reviews that are just people saying why they found a game fun or annoying since that's all they can honestly say and the rest is just them trying to seem objective about their reasons.

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
These two opinions are why we have developed a 3 pronged "attac" basically. The Team 5 will try to be objective, and review on a strict set of guidlines, the Team of 3 will be more opinion based and the video reviews will just show everything as is for you to form your own opinion. Im likeing all the input so far, I really think this will shape up into something good.

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
I prefer a review that gives me a good description of the game, and puts the pros and cons in there. I want to know if the game will take longer than a day to beat, is there plenty of secrets to unlock, and is the gameplay in depth.

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
Well, quite. My handwriting is appalling, yes, but not so much for the poor grammar.
I find your reasoning confused; if I know how to spell, and spell well, how could I fail at translating this into the written word?
Anyway, back on topic - Your review site is doomed to failure.

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
why must it fail because LUPUS says so. I would actually value your real insight on such matter. Hey do you actually play video games?? WHat ones do you like???
I don't think I have actually seen any thread where you talk about a game or such that you like, granteed I have not read them all, but I am truly curious what games do you play and why?

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
Why must it fail? because you've asked for criticism, received it and ignored it.
anyway, there's no possible way I can list every game I've played, but recently I flit between Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, The Darkness, Guitar Hero III, Pokιmon Pearl, a bit of Space Giraffe and Hexic, and the old stalwart, World of Warcraft.
And you won't be seeing me talk about them unless somebody else is, simply because I'm not the sort of person who'll blindly gabble on and on about their day for no apparent reason.

Don't worry Nin, Lupus is under control of the staff, mostly me. lol
Nin, if you need any help or have a question, let me know. I have an inactive website that you can check it out for ideas or whatever. It doesn't matter to me either way, I didn't have the resources to get traffic for the site, so I quit bothering with it. Just click my name in the post and click on view website.

Re: What would you most like to see in a game review site
haveing recieved said criticism, why do you think I have ignored it. I have taken every thing every person has written and made changes or placed ideas into action. If there are ( and Im sure there are) spelling issues on an inactive site thats a minor concern until I go live, if you want to be helpful when you find said mistake let me know in an email to the admin of the site. Thats pretty simple ain't it. (oh sorry to those I may offend using slang but well I use ain't and I ain't gonna stop)
Phatty nice site I do have questions for you? Ill shoot you an email///

That's why I've been banned twice and am still here. I cower at Phatty's ineffectual rule.
