Huh Your thoughts on selling online accounts?

I've been discussing this with some friends, but I wanted to hear some outside thoughts on the subject. Do you think that people who invest the time to build up online characters should be able to sell their account? Or do you think the game developer who created and designed the game should hold control or even disallow that sort of thing to happen?

For example, I have a World of Warcraft account with a character that I've racked up 200+ played days on. I definitely get my $15/month worth of enjoyment out of the subscription. I obviously paid for the original game and the expansion pack as well. However, if I choose to not play any longer... should I be able to cash out on my time and effort building him up?

Re: Your thoughts on selling online accounts?

i think its a good investment, especially if you dont have a life and can play games all day long.

And, i dont think the game company can do anything about Account selling. Besides its a players own choise.

They can ban the account if they find out.

Re: Your thoughts on selling online accounts?

More than that, they can get rid of it, or wipe out your history and keep charging you whether you play or not.
I can agree with you to a point Caff, but they are strictly offering the service to make money, and they are not going to do anything that would cause them to have to give anything back.

Is fair/unfair both ways.

You pay to play it, and purchased it, but they made it.

Ebay is loaded with this.

Not true. You're basically renting the software and paying for the use of their servers.
You don't own anything, technically. Read the EULA.

Re: Your thoughts on selling online accounts?

I gotta admit its sad that people pay for a game account instead of just playing the game themselves

By purchasing it, I meant purchasing the discs to install the games on your PC, not buying the game entirely.

Obviously you don't own anything.

You pay for internet service, monthly, rent, you don't own it.

You never own anything because the money in your pocket was printed by a country's government.

Re: Your thoughts on selling online accounts?

well there's only 1 tip for buying accounts

be sure to get all the things for the account you buy.

example:

Tibia you can sell ur account easy if ur like lvl 70+

but, tibia has 1 thing that if you lose ur acc info you can get it back with a recovery key. Alot of peepz screwed because of it.

so, my tip be sure to get everything that that accoutn has.

Re: Your thoughts on selling online accounts?

its kinda hard to say actually...i mean yes you yourself spent plenty of time building up that character...then again they provided you with the game and the character itself....but then AGAIN YOU are the consumer...you are the one paying the $15 a month and you bought the game in the first place even tho they were the ones who created it so...technically they have a right to the character but ethically...you have the right to sell it i guess is what im saying. and since you paid that $15 dollars a month everytime...if you want to sell it itd kinda like getting your money back...and then some since you went through all that trouble and took all that time out of your life in order to raid and do heroics to get good items. blizzard owns world of warcraft rights...but the consumers are the ones that keep blizzard in busin
