Elite edition or normal 360?

As the title suggests, do you think its worth getting the 360 Elite or just a normal 360?

I'm thinking of getting one or the other for Christmas possibly.

What's your opinion?

Re: Elie edition or normal 360?

If you plan in the future to download lots of films and TV programs from video marketplace then Elite, or if you have a HDMI TV and can't find a regular 360 with a HDMI port. Otherwise normal premium 360.

Re: Elie edition or normal 360?

I personally own a 360 Elite. It's cool because it has lots of space and some extra features the regular Xbox doesn't have, if you want your 360 to just play games, then buy the regular one, but if you're a guy who likes to download Videos, Demos, Store lots of pictures and Music, then go for the Elite one.

I bought the Elite because it was black and had HDMI.

Re: Elie edition or normal 360?

Nice little fact, newly manufactured 360s have a HDMI port.

In a nice little list the differences are:
The Elite is black not white
It has a 120gb Hard drive as opposed to a 20gb Hard drive
It comes with a HDMI cable
It's £50 more expensive (according to play.com)

That's it.

So as I said earlier it's only worth it for the larger hard drive (£100+ by itself). The normal 20gb Hard drive is more than big enough for all the demos you'll ever need and if you have a PC connected to a network then you can stream any pictures, videos or music through that rather than put them on your hard drive. The only large space users are films and TV programs.

I can't really think of any reason that makes it worth it to buy an elite unless you don't already have one and can afford to just blow that kinda money on it. i would stick with the pro model for the time being, and buy the extras later.

Well I bought mine just before the new Pros began to ship with HDMI. still, £50 for a free HDMI cable AND it's in black? 's fine with me.

Re: Elite edition or normal 360?

I plan on getting a 360 eventually, but the elite does sound like the right choice if you want the space and HDMI, which both are very useful.

One thing that kind of makes me nervous about spending money on the console is that red ring, and how it just happens.

Has happened to a friend a few times and he has to wait weeks to get his 360 back and fixed.

I respect microsoft's decision to fix all red ringed 360's, even one's from launch greatly. It will set them back billions, but I really respect how there doing it all for their fans and customers.

I'm not bringing that up to insult the 360 in anyway, I'm just saying it goes into my purchasing decision.

I want to play through Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Dead Rising, the Halo's, Viva Pinata, Gears II, and other exclusives.

I'll just wait till' I have the money though. These coming months lots of great games will be coming out.

They are also upgrading the hardware in new 360s (of all SKUs) with newer chips and heat sinks(?) which dramatically reduce the likelihood of getting a red ring.

Re: Elite edition or normal 360?

^Hopefully red rings are a thing of the past, who know's how many on store shelves still have this problem though.

Just good microsoft's really doing something about it, the heat has caused warping significant enough to damage the component connections on the system board. Atleast that's what I think the main problem is.

Hopefully these new skus will end this. The thing is, will it reduce the likeliness or will you still get the red ring if you leave your 360 on for longer than normal?

I guess it still would be inevidible for the system to overheat if it's on long enough, but it may be the design that's faultily made that causes overheating to affect it so badly.

I think microsoft's focusing 100% on taking care of this and their fixing or adding/changing things to the design, so this won't be a problem for much longer.

How much of a blow is microsoft going to take financially from this though?

I've seen on Ark's presence that he's left his on for over 20 hours (doing nothing...) so I think he'd be the one to ask about leaving the 360 on.

For me I'd only been using it for 20 minutes watching a DVD the time I got my RROD so I don't think it's much to do with that.

Re: Elite edition or normal 360?

I haven't yet had any problems with my 360 elite. It's probably because i don't spend the entire day playing. The problem with the Red Ring of Death happens when you play for a really long time and you do it very often. I don't usually play more than 2 or 3 hours with the games i already beat.

Re: Elite edition or normal 360?

Microsoft can affford to fix any gliche that comes their way and as well they should fix them.

The normal 360 sounds like it will suit my simple needs just fine. I am waiting until they sort out the technical problems however. The Elite does sound pretty cool though, but more than what I need and the color is really not much of a factor in my decision making process. (I do prefer black though................... )

edit: I realise that you may not know RROD is a commonly accepted abbreviation of Red ring of DEATH.
