Sid Meier's Civilization
Have you played these games? You literally build your own nation from the ground up, develop technologies, weapons, city structures, and compete against other tribes/nations. It advances through time too, so you will develop Nuclear Weapons at one point.
The damn Indians use the Nuclear Weapons too much though.

Civilization is a classic, and it pretty much started this genre. Also, Rise Of Nations, Empire Earth, Age Of Empires etc, are all RTS, and Civ. is a turn based strategy. The difference between Civ & other RTS games is that you build & control many cities, versus one or two bases in RTS games.
Anyway, Civ was awesome. Activision tried to ruin the Civ name by creating their wannabe Civ (Call To Power) but thankfuly Sid Meir made Civ 3 (Now Firaxis Games) to make up for it.

yea.. i like that game... but i find myself getting interrupted allot and have to stop right in the middle.. and i hate saving and starting up again...
im getting more into games like Home World and command and conquer... although sometimes they can take just as much time if your mounting a big attack..

I really don't get how it works...do you get to move one unit and then they get to move one unit or something like that?

Lol .. the same for me M8 .. but occasionally I do like the " Mentally Challenging " type game .. and Civ series are one of those types

Don't take this the wrong way, but that's the point of a.... turn based strategy
I agree, it's definitely not for everyone, and personally I still love RTS (C&C series) the best, but Civ is prob the only actual "good" turn based strategy game out there.

Re: Sid Meier's Civilization
ah, but ducon, i gives people like me that never knew they existed to post on them.
as for the civ games...i love them. i have civ2, civ2 gold, and civ3 with patch v29. it is a game that takes a lot of time, but it is also a game that never gets old, being you can have a different situation every time
jushiko, the indians wouldn't use nukes if you didn't build manhattan project. and if they try to build it...blow up any city that starts its production...
vile, i agree. civ ctp sucked. civ alpha centauri was interesting, being you researched components of vehicles and combined them to make your settlers and warriors, but it was definately different.
dr. suess, of course civ1 was lame. it was like, 2 bit graphics!
aenima...each unit has a certain amt of movement pts on any given terrain in any given turn. when those are used up, that unit can't move anymore till next turn. you can also choose to not move a unit.
vile, i agree the civ series is great, but i also like one called master of orion. moo1 had crappy graphics, and moo3 is just too complicated for my liking, but i really liked moo2
